Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard Review

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 for Business - Wired (1 pack)

Most people don’t pay attention to the need for an ergonomic keyboard. This is probably due to the assumption that they cost a lot.

However, that’s not the case for all ergonomic keyboards as some like the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard come at a pocket-friendly price despite the value attached to it. Other than a comfortable time using it, this keyboard contributes to good working posture in the office and so much more.

Could this be the keyboard you've been searching for? Probably. Find out more below.

If you are familiar with products from Microsoft, you know they seldom disappoint. This time around, they have come up with the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard which is designed for business use.

This keyboard came as a remedy for its predecessors’ shortcoming – the Microsoft sculpt ergonomic keyboard.

The sculpted keyboard is ergonomically perfect but the fact that it came with a separate number pad made it an inconvenience for the workplace.

Therefore, Microsoft combined both number and alphabet keys in one keyboard to make work more accessible. The keyboard is every bit as ergonomic as its previous counterparts, providing your wrist with comfort as you work.

Who is this keyboard meant for?

The Microsoft Natural Ergonomic keyboard incorporates a design for business people who use computers for hours on end.

The keyboard is designed to enhance natural palm and wrist placement as you work, reducing any chances of fatigue or straining your wrist.

Although it is targeted toward office workers, they are not the only ones who can use this keyboard.

It is easy to use and install, making it excellent for use by the ordinary computer user, especially if you did not fancy the Microsoft Sculpt version. It also helps that it comes at a fair price for an ergonomic keyboard.

Unboxing the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard

The keyboard comes in a standard rectangular box. Inside is the keyboard with the power cord attached to it, as opposed to the Sculpt keyboard that comes with the alphanumeric section separated from the numeric keypad. This keyboard resembles a standard flat keyboard when it comes to packaging. The difference is in the dome shape which provides its ergonomic features.

Features

Zoom in and out

This feature will allow you to get a closer look at the work that you handle. Furthermore, you can use the intuitive zoom slider to get a closer look at your work.

Customizable hotkeys

You can customize the available keys to work according to your needs as you perform everyday tasks that include opening documents. Additionally, you can effortlessly reply to email messages and other typing tasks with the touch of a button.

Improved number pad

The number pad is attached to the keyboard making it resemble the standard keyboard, hence easily accessible.

An ergonomic and comfortable design

It comes in a dome shape which helps give it its ergonomic properties necessary for natural wrist positioning when typing. It also helps that it comes with a cushioned palm rest for comfort.

Media keys

This is responsible for music and video control.

Pros

  • Combines the numerical pad with the alphanumeric section which is convenient for some users
  • It is designed to enhance comfort as you work
  • It comes at an affordable price

Cons

  • Does not run with the old Windows 7 OS
  • Can be difficult to set up

How to install the keyboard

The keyboard comes with a step by step guide on how to fix the keyboard.

  1. Select the operating system that you will be using from the menu on the support tab and then click download to start downloading the essential software and their drivers. You will view basic settings and choose as you wish.
  2. Assign the initial three keys on the left upper side of the keyboard to various shortcuts as you want to by clicking on the necessary settings and reassigning the key to different functions.
  3. Reassign the five my favorites to what you wish
  4. Program all the remaining keys to various services and other unique keys on the keyboard to run different macros. If you want to assign a macro, click on the “not yet assigned” and then on “Create a new macro.” You can insert unique keys depending on the various features of your macro.

Alternative

Despite the comfort associated with this keyboard, it does not work with some operating systems such as the old Windows 7 version. In this case, the Logitech Wireless Wave Combo MK550 is an excellent alternative as it can work with most operating systems, but it is more expensive when compared to the Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard.

Conclusion

This keyboard is excellent for anyone looking for a comfortable office keyboard. The fact that it comes at an affordable price is noteworthy, as well as its compact design.

The major challenge you might have with this keyboard is the hard time you may have installing the drivers as they tend to misbehave.

You may also have a challenge if you have an old Windows versions that is not compatible. For this, we recommend the Logitech Wireless Wave Combo MK550 keyboard if you are reluctant to change your OS.
